Fermentation & Recovery Operator

Unique opportunity for the right individual in Shakopee, Minnesota at a growing microbial fermentation facility. This job will be working in production/fermentation area of the business. BIO-CAT Microbials is a food grade facility producing probiotics for humans, animals and agriculture.

Full time employment with a four-day work week (4 x 10-hour days). Hourly rate determined on eligibility.

Two different shifts available, either:

  • Monday – Thursday 6am-4:30 pm, ability to work earlier or later available, if required.
  • Wednesday – Saturday 6am – 4:30pm, ability to work earlier or later available, if required.
    • Pay differential of $2/hr included for Saturday schedule.

Requirements:

  • Mature, responsible, adult with steady work experience
  • Good communication skills (verbal, written, computer)
  • Ability to lift 60 lbs
  • Strong mechanical background & skills
  • Attention to detail is a must
  • Willingness to work
  • Willing to work OT as needed
  • Reliable transportation
  • Punctual
  • Works well with a diverse group of employees
    • Team player
  • Willing to enter confined spaces on occasion after successful training
  • Positive attitude & great work ethic

Employment is conditioned on passing a drug and alcohol test after an offer of employment is made. Satisfactory background check also required post offer.

Preferred Experience:

  • Experience preferred in any or all of the following (Training will be provided for the right candidate):
    • Fermentation
    • fluid processing (drinks, fuels, oils, food, etc)
    • centrifugation
    • spray drying
  • Past work or basic understanding of food grade facilities and requirements a plus.

Duties & Job Responsibilities:

  • Fermentation – will include (but not be limited to):
    • CIP (clean-in-place) of fermentation vessels and equipment
    • Sterilization of vessels and equipment
    • Weighing and blending ingredients
    • Monitoring fermentation parameters
  • Centrifuge – will include (but not be limited to):
    • Disassembly and cleaning of centrifuge
    • Reassembly, operation of centrifuge (8-16 hours)
    • Monitoring centrifuge parameters throughout
  • Spray dryer – will include (but not be limited to):
    • Disassembly and cleaning of spray dryer
    • Reassembly, operation of spray dryer
    • Monitoring spray dryer parameters throughout
  • Boiler License – Will be required to have or be able to obtain Special Engineer Boiler License as an employee
    • BIO-CAT Microbials will pay for classes and fees required to obtain this license.
  • Maintenance tasks will include (but not be limited to) disassembling, reassembling, and lubrication of pumps, valves, piping, motors, and equipment.
  • May be required to troubleshoot low voltage electrical equipment.
  • Will perform warehousing tasks, e.g. loading/unloading trucks, inventories, preparing shipments, forklift etc.
