BIO-CAT Joins Lallemand
Effective July 31, 2026, Lallemand Inc. has completed its acquisition of BIO-CAT Enzymes & Microbials.
Together, we are combining complementary expertise in enzymes, microbial technologies, fermentation, and life science innovation to create an even stronger platform for developing next-generation solutions for the human health, animal nutrition, agriculture, food, and industrial markets.
BIO-CAT and Lallemand are expanding the possibilities for innovation while strengthening our commitment to delivering exceptional value to customers around the world.
2023
BIO-CAT’s 35th Anniversary
August 1st, 2023 – BIO-CAT celebrates it’s 35th anniversary. This year celebrates many achievements as we look to the future!
2021
2021: BIO-CAT’s Continued Expansion
After 15 years of success in Minnesota, BIO-CAT plans to expand that business through a 53,800 square foot expansion of high tech microbial fermentation production in Troy, VA, with a projected start date of 2022. This enables BIO-CAT to bring several new jobs to the area. The expansion highlights a modular design, and allows the company to continue to grow in the future with an additional expansion during a projected second phase.
2018
2018: BIO-CAT Microbials Expands
BIO-CAT Microbials gets a front office expansion and remodel which includes 4 new offices and an executive conference room. Construction begins to add 5 new state-of-the-art blending rooms and capital improvements are made to their laboratory space, adding 3 clean rooms.
2016
2016: FSSC 22000 (Food Safety System Certification)
BIO-CAT becomes a FSSC 22000 (Food Safety System Certification) certified company which is recognized by the Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI) and based on existing ISO standards. BIO-CAT is certified by the Islamic Food and Nutrition Council of America as HALAL for consumption.
2015
2015: HACCP Implementation
BIO-CAT implements the Hazard Analysis & Critical Control Point (HACCP) Management System, a recognized management system for reducing the risk of safety hazards in food.
2014
2014: BIO-CAT CEO Named “Business Person of the Year” 2014
Ed Schuler, founder and CEO of BIO-CAT, is named “Business Person of the Year” by the Louisa County Chamber of Commerce. Ed credits his employees saying, “Over the years, BIO-CAT has had the good fortune to hire excellent people to run our operation.”
BIO-CAT establishes the ‘Brian M. Huffman Memorial Scholarship’ at Louisa County High School in remembrance of Brian Huffman, a former vice-president of operations and an instrumental asset to the company.
2013
2013: BIO-CAT Makes a Big Commitment Towards Innovation
BIO-CAT breaks ground on a 15,000 square foot expansion of production and warehouse space along with a 6,800 square foot state-of-the-art Research and Development lab. Installation on a new customer service office is complete, and construction begins on a new main entrance and parking lot.
2012
2012: BIO-CAT Microbials Goes Green
BIO-CAT Microbials makes capital improvements to their fermentation process. Automated processes to improve efficiencies, expanded capacity and SAVING over 1,000,000 gallons of water annually.
2011
2011: Official Distributor for Shin Nihon Enzyme
BIO-CAT becomes the exclusive North American distributor of dietary supplement enzyme products for Shin Nihon Enzyme Co., one of the most unique enzyme producers in the world.
